What Our Team Will Focus On
The Community Resource Team launched an Ontario-wide research initiative to understand why young adults are stepping away from traditional volunteering and how we can redesign the experience for the next generation.
We're exploring the real barriers that prevent people from getting involved, from financial pressures and time constraints to outdated recruitment, unnecessary systems, and volunteer models that no longer reflect today's realities.
Together, we'll develop practical, evidence-based solutions that help organizations create volunteer experiences that are flexible, meaningful, and genuinely worth saying yes to.
This isn't about collecting data for a report. It's about giving our generation a voice in shaping the future of community engagement.

How We Make an Impact
We don't just research problems, we work alongside communities to build better solutions. Here's how our team creates real change:
Discover: Through Ontario-wide interviews, surveys, and conversations, we uncover the real experiences of young adults. We explore everything from cost-of-living pressures and work-life balance to complicated onboarding, background checks, and the barriers that keep people from getting involved.
Design: Working together, we develop and reinforce better practices like flexible micro-volunteering opportunities, simplified onboarding, skills-based volunteering, Volunteer PTO models, and other approaches that better reflect how young adults want to contribute today.
Test: We bring our research and recommendations directly to nonprofits, municipalities, businesses, and community organizations to learn what works, what doesn't, and how our ideas can become practical solutions, not just theory.
Create Change: Research only matters if people use it. That's why we transform our findings into practical reports, infographics, toolkits, and resources that organizations can immediately use to reduce barriers, improve volunteer experiences, and build stronger relationships with the next generation of community leaders.
